The Ohio State University Buckeyes claimed the inaugural National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) Men’s Division I championship as they downed fellow MIVA club Lakeland in the finals of the 26th annual collegiate club volleyball championships. Seven of the 14 MIVA teams participating in Men’s DI made the Gold bracket. Illinois finished 5th falling in the 2nd round while Indiana, Grand Valley State, Michigan State and Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished 9th overall losing their initial Gold bracket match. Illinois State finished 19th falling the Silver flight semi-finals while Miami University, Notre Dame, Wisconsin all lost in the 1st round of the Silver flight to finish in 25th place. Ball State finished 34th overall losing in the Bronze flight final, after defeating Marquette (35th) in the Bronze semi-final.
In Men’s Division IAA, Cincinnati’s second place was tops among the 10 MIVA teams in the division. Five of the MIVA teams made the Gold bracket in DIAA, the same ratios as in DI. Northern Illinois finished 5th in Gold defeating Michigan before losing. Joining Michigan in 9th overall were Central Michigan and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Iowa State and Kentucky met in the Silver Flight final with the Cyclones coming out on top to claim 17th place overall. Western Michigan finished 34th overall falling in the Bronze Flight final.
In Men’s Division II, both MIVA member entries, Baldwin-Wallace and Ohio Northern made the Gold bracket (9th overall).
MIVA teams also had a strong showing in Men’s Division III claiming half the Gold bracket spots. UW-Oshkosh-2 bested fellow MIVA club Illinois-B to claim the championship. The Titans path to the championship included a semi-final win over Ohio State-2, while Illinois State-2 lost to Illinois-B in the quarter final round.
