Facility Layout:    Facility Floor Plan

Format:  All play is best of 3 match play using USAV 2017-2019 Domestic Competition Regulations.  USAV Test Rule (USAV 7.3.5.3) will not  be used.

Based on Conference and other regular season results, the teams where split into Group A (top 16) and Group B (next 16). There are 4 pools of 4 in each group. The top 2 finishing teams in the Group A pools (A, B, C, D) will advance to seeds 1 to 8 in Sunday’s Gold Bracket Flight 1. The 3rd and 4th place finishers in the Group A pools will advance to the Challenge Round where they will play teams from Group B for the final 8 places in the Gold Bracket Flight 1.

The top 2 finishing teams in the Group B pools (E, F, G, H) will advance to the Challenge Round. The 3rd and 4th place finishers in the Group B pools will advance to the Silver Bracket Flight 1.

Teams losing in the first round of both the Gold and Silver Brackets will drop into separate 8 team Flight 2 brackets.

In the event of ties for position in the pools, statistical ranking and tie-breaker procedures (described elsewhere) will be used. In Group A, elimination from the Gold Bracket occurs in the Challenge Round, thus there will be no 1-set playoff matches. In Group B pools with ties, 1-set playoff matches may be required.

Lastly, pay attention to Saturday’s work assignments. Paula says there is some work team weirdness.

Work Assignments:  The work team will consist of 4 people minimum (5 preferred) -- 2 line judges, a scorer, an assistant scorer/flipper. If 5 people are used, the Libero tracker and flipper jobs are separated.  One person from the officiating team shall check in with the assigned match referees right after the captain's meeting/coin toss for the match they are working.  The full work team MUST be present at all times during the teams officiating assignment.  Once the match begins, the officiating crew shall not use any unauthorized devices, such as I-pods or cell phones, while officiating the match.

A reminder to all teams, when teams lose in both the Challenge Round (Saturday) and in Bracket play (Sunday), they will need to officiate the next match on the court where you played.

Penalty points will be assessed to a team who is late for their officiating assignment, meaning they don't have the full contingent court side (at the score table and available for referee instructions) beginning at the start of the receiving team warm-ups, (4 minutes before match time).  The penalty is one point for every minute all 4 members are not present (at the score table and available for referee instructions) beginning at the start of the receiving team warm-ups.  The maximum penalty is 25 minutes, or 25 points, for a one set forfeiture on the team's next match.  A second offense could result in the forfeiture of the team's next match.  All penalty points will be assessed by championship staff.

Pool Finish and Tie Breaking Criteria
Ranking of Teams - In each pool, teams will be ranked by [1] match record, [2] set record and [3] point ratio - points won divided by points lost in all pool matches.  Teams will not be eliminated from advancing toward the Gold Bracket using only the pool ranking statistics.  Teams should be aware of their pool finish and inquire of Championship staff as to resolution of the tied finish.

In the event of 2-way tie, the head-to-head match result will resolve the tie.  In this case the pool will have two 2-way ties, for 1st place and for 3rd place.

In the event of a 3-way tie, the ranking statistics will determine the relative pool finish.  (At this tournament a 3-way tie will involve a match split among the tied teams.)

For Group A (Pools A, B, C, D) no playoff matches occur because all teams advance to the Challenge Round and can still qualify for the Gold Bracket.

Playoff Matches - For Group B (Pools E, F, G, H) only two teams advance to the Challenge Round and thus can still qualify for the Gold Bracket.  Since the pool standings tie involves more teams that can advance to the Challenge Round, one or two 1-set matches to 25 points, with a side change at 13 points, will be played.

As indicated above, the ranking statistics will determine the relative pool finish of the tied teams.  If the 3-way tie is for 1st place in the pool, the team ranked (and finishing) 1st will be the work team for the 1-set match for 2nd place in the pool between the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams.  Championship staff will determine the time and court for the playoff match.

If the 3-way tie is for 2nd place in the pool, two 1-set playoff matches will be played.  The first match will involve the 3rd versus 4th ranked teams in the pool with the 2nd ranked team serving as the work team.  The winner of the first playoff match (3rd of 4th) will play the 2nd rank team with the loser of the first playoff match as the work team.  The winner of the second playoff match will advance to the Challenge Round as the 2nd place finisher in the pool.
